#9 IN SANGUINE
text by Nathini van der Meer, zweieinhalb.
This season Saberi has recessed and expanded his research on transparent leathers, emphasizing the bipolar spirit of his material range. Very fine and fragile knits that expose the body underneath converge with dense leathers and felts. Yet again the compactness of these materials is relativised; the red and black transparent leather evokes a moment of bewilderment, being diaphanous yet sturdy at the same time. Even though dark at first sight, there is always an element of organic lightness within the Saberi profile. His silhouettes have progressed, merging sharp tailored blazers and jackets with his trademark soft layering techniques, again bearing references to the designers personal backdrop: the accuracy of classical European Tailoring in reciprocity with his Persian roots. Another original element of this collection is the colour red, which is obtained by pioneering a complex blood-dye-technique. Fascinated by the properties and colour-scheme of blood at its various stages of drying and healing, Saberi developed a range of procedures to dye, layer and fixate pig-blood-pigments on textiles and leathers, receiving a gradual palette ranging from deep red tones to a rich black.
