Der Blautopf in Blaubeuren, by Wolfgang Tillmans
German artist Wolfgang Tillmans shot the vivid aquamarine waters of “The Blue Pot” springs in Blaubeuren, Germany as a special project for Bernhard Willhelm’s NºB magazine.
The shimmering waters of this spring are surrounded by mysterious stories including that of 19th century poet Eduard Mörike - of a mermaid condemned to the depths by her evil husband, a water king from the Black Sea.
Wolfgang’s photos capture the intensity of colour and the tranquility of the Blautopf and the contrasting bright green vegetation, imbued with the eerie calm of this historical, legendary destination.
The credits at the end of NºB cite Wolfgang Tillmans as:
“born in Germany in 1968. He had his first photographic exhibition in Hamburg in 1988. He stidued in Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. He published many books and participated in exhibitions worldwide. in 2000 he was the winner of the Turner Prize.”
