Discretion by Soody & Payam Sharifi
The Iranian mother and son artistic collaboration of Soody and Payam Sharifi have contributed a piece on the history of the ‘gaze’ for Haider Ackermann’s A#3. As opposed to staring or any other visual contact, the gaze has a connotation of desire and longing, and this is given a soft sensuality in Soody’s photograph ‘Hammamm’, depicting a woman’s gaze from behind a curtain, lingerie hanging by a sun-lit window at her side. Payam explores the concept of discretion and it’s evolution in Eastern and Western societies.
“The intensity of the eyes is only matched by their delicacy. The rush of desire is hinged on a moment.”
