Excerpts from i-D magazine founder Terry Jones’ candid interview with Jun Takahashi.

TJ: “Did you ever make Karaoke?

Jun Takahashi: “I sometimes get requested to sing The Sex Pistols but I’m too shy. I’d have to be drunk or something.”

Jun Takahashi: “Some people wearing punk fashion are not punk at all, but are very normal.
Some people wear ordinary fashion, but are punk.”

TJ: “I’m interested in your personal definition of wealth because for us [i-D] wealth is about talent.”

Jun Takahashi: “I don’t think what you have is wealth, it’s when a person can make something real. If I think of something and I turn it into reality, that is more wealth. It’s not about how many things you’ve got, but what you can create mentally.”

TJ: “When you produce a collection, is your aim to create an emotion?”

Jun Takahashi: “Yes, my own emotion.”

Jun Takahashi: “I think of myself as really normal, but inside, I’m totally alien. What I make, what i create is totally alien. But my personality is normal. I’m an ordinary person. I’m at peace. Are you at peace?”
