Nueva Esperanza

Nueva Esperanza by Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello, directed by Mauricio Nardi

It was in the able hands of Mauricio Nardi that Kris Van Assche entrusted the main fashion shoot within A#7, a cinematic and stark formalwear story photographed by Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello.

Showcasing many of the most beautiful and lavish ‘film noir’ outfits from Fall Winter 2008, the images are rich with vampiric allusions, as models Andre & Gabriel stalk through wintery ruins in crisp white collars, studded jackets, and hooded cloaks. Black butterflies adorn their throats like dark familiars, drawn to their waxen faces and chill stares. The black and white images are rendered rich through texture – with matte wools, shiny leather, lustrous cottons and hard metals contrasting with heather, mossy stone and craggy dry branches. Sofia & Mauro play with rapid movement, long shadows and strong, masculine poses to capture their stoic heroes.

Entitled ‘Nueva Esperanza’ -or ‘New Hope’ – this piece looks to a new era for Dior Homme, a time of new confidence for Kris as he offered the collection to be viewed through the eyes of his contemporary and friend Mauricio Nardi, rather than entirely orchestrating his own vision. New Hope.
