Margiela in the movies..
Fashion, film and the Maison Martin Margiela are three elements that have coincided regularly in the company’s twenty year history. Whether the 3-d film with London based graphic designers Intro for S/S 02, or Nigel Bennett’s exploration of the Margiela woman in A/W 04-05, the house is no stranger to film collaborations, but it is their recent in-house cinema work that is proving to be a strong, creative communication tool for the brand. Keeping the subversive, humorous tone that identifies Margiela communications, the new series of silent films have a home-made yet clinical feel – with documentary techniques and clean, simple editing. Whether they are showing the new Margiela/Rizzoli book, a series of jewellery or the special Michael Stipe of R.E.M, the videos each carry a through-line of no-nonsense, speedy delivery and candid, anonymous human involvement.
Featured below are the recent Maison Martin Margiela newsletter films, showing the recently released White Objects series, as well as their latest book collaboration, jewellery line, and the limited edition sterling silver cassette tape from Michael Stipe.
