“Happy Days”, the making of A#9
Looking back on the last issue of A, guest creative editors Tom Watt and Ian Davies share their intimate images of the ‘making-of’ A#9 in New York last year.
Sitting in the sunny studio with Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez, the friends and colleagues constructed the pages of the issue along the walls and the floor. Artist Kon Trubkovich joined this particular session, proffering his illustrated series ‘Double entrance/double exit’ for the land art component of the magazine. Sitting on the windowsill, a copy of the New York Post illustrates Jack’s little run-in with Kiefer Sutherland at an awards afterparty, and Lazaro’s dog lounges on one of Jimmy De Sana’s photographs. Thin clouds streak across the New York skyline out the window – leaving us no wonder at all why Tom offered the title ‘Happy Days’ for this post – an apt allusion for this seemingly idyllic afternoon of magazine-making.
