911 by Olaf Breuning
This deliciously dark image by Swiss artist Olaf Breuning appears in Riccardo Tisci’s A#8, as an unexpected edition to his eclectic story. Depicting an eerie static scene, the photograph features seven painted figures seated in front of a black Porsche 911, their neat poses juxtaposed by the guerilla-esque black paint that is slicked across their faces. Only their various black boots and haircuts allow the viewer to distinguish between the characters, with a vibrant redhead catching the eye in the centre. Face-painting is a recurrent theme in Breuning’s work, and resonates well with the concerns of disguise and mystery that run through A#8.
