Dutch photographer Desiree Dolron‘s photographic art simulates a shadowy, dream-like world – draping her soft veil over reality to deliver images that transcend the everyday and become instantly both historical and mythical. By melding documentary style photography with 21st century retouching methods, Desiree achieves her powdery, glowing effect – allowing her pictures to look almost like paintings.

For Riccardo Tisci’s A#8, two pieces were scattered through the magazine as separate entities, keeping in synch with the purposeful scrapbook feeling of the issue – with disparate elements contrasting yet carrying a strange, dark continuity. Both from her ‘Xteriors‘ series that echoes traditional Flemish artworks, the  images form parts of a heavy narrative of portraiture and landscapes, travelling through a melancholy castle of regal, black-robed women – shown in ‘VIII‘ above as they huddle around the frail form of a pale sleeping boy. ‘XI‘ below is a foggy, sepia-toned shot of gnarled trees outside their windows, their strong and twisted limbs radiating both a sense of foreboding of the forest and a protection over the women’s quiet vigil.
